Support people

We encourage you to have a support person to share the birth experience with. Some expecting mothers plan to have additional family or friends present during the labor and birth.

Siblings at birth

If you have other children and want them to be present at the birth, we strongly recommend checking out books and DVDs from the Salem Health Community Health Education Center to enhance their experience. The CHEC is located on the first floor of Bldg. D and is open Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Books and DVDs can be checked out for three weeks at a time at no cost.

In addition, an information packet can be mailed to you on fun ways to help prepare siblings for another child in the family if you leave us your name and mailing address and make this request at the CHEC or call us at 503-814-CHEC(2432).

Children under 12 must have their own support person if they attend the birth. Family members or friends may also wait in the lobby on the third floor.
