Volunteering at Salem Health

These volunteers are the "face of the hospital." They help visitors navigate the campus, escort patients to their appointments, deliver flowers, ensure wheelchairs are nearby and more. They also sometimes walk 10,000 steps a shift!

Volunteers share cancer related resources and general information with patients. They also help with wig and head covering fittings.

The connections program, funded by Salem Health West Valley Hospital Foundation, ensures rides to appointments for patients who do not have other means of transportation.

Volunteers serve in one of the busiest emergency rooms in the Northwest supporting patients, family members and staff. Be prepared for a variety of situations, always providing the highest level of customer service.

The hospitality cart is stocked with a variety of items and offered to patients and loved ones in selected areas of the hospital.

We have a variety of nursing units that need volunteers to assist staff and help with general unit tasks. Serve autonomously and be ready to assist with needs when requested.

• Stay informed on unit/storage layout and distribution of items
• Ensure unit cabinets are in a state of readiness
• Visit with patients and family members as needed

Volunteers support the team with stocking, disinfecting and office needs to prep for appointments.

• Help ensure toys and props are sanitized before next use
• Ensure restocking for each room is complete before next patient

Therapy pets bring comfort to patients and staff in the hospital. Salem Health’s pet therapy training program helps dogs with Canine Good Citizen certification become active pet therapy volunteers.
