Hospital volunteer opportunities at Salem Health

Volunteers at Salem Hospital and West Valley Hospital gain experience and help their community members through a variety of jobs. Salem Health volunteers do everything from guiding patients to their hospital appointments to helping file medical records.

Salem Health Connections provides wheelchair accessible transportation for patients’ medical appointments to and from several service locations. It is funded by the West Valley Hospital Foundation and staffed entirely by West Valley Hospital volunteers.

Make a Paws-itive Impact!

Salem Health has developed a training program for dogs with Canine Good Citizen certification to become pet therapy dogs. Their owners provide healthcare volunteering by paying visits to patients, staff and visitors across the hospital. To learn about enrolling into our program to become a pet therapy volunteer at Salem Health, please call 503-814-1792.

We all have life experiences we can use to uplift and care for others. Becoming a Salem Health volunteer is a great way to connect to people who need you in a variety of areas throughout the hospital.

All are welcome, regardless of ability, gender, age, race or background. Every culture is welcomed and celebrated at Salem Health.

You’re eligible to be a volunteer for health care at Salem Hospital or West Valley Hospital if you:

  • Are 14 years or older.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Provide great customer service.
  • Have positive references from others.
  • Are motivated and able to work independently and with a team.
  • Are able to commit to a regular, weekly shift for eight months.
  • Can provide COVID proof.
