New vendor and after-hours visitor badging system coming this spring

Green Security supports patient care and operational flow
By: Nathan Behnke, Security Systems Manager
Over the next few months, Salem Health Hospitals & Clinics will be transitioning to a new platform called Green Security. This system will help us manage three things in a more consistent, safer and less time-consuming way:
- Vendor check-in and vetting
- After-hours patient-visitor badging (replacing our current end-of-life visitor badging tool)
- Contractor vetting and tracking, including baseline expectations and training
Why we’re doing this
Our current vendor badging process has become both more expensive and difficult for vendors to navigate, which creates friction for departments and slows service delivery. At the same time, our after-hours visitor badging tool is at end-of-life and needs replacement. Green Security lets us standardize these workflows and reduce manual steps that currently land in Security Dispatch.
What this means for you
- Easier, more consistent vendor check-in: Vendors will be checked in through Green Security using a standardized workflow. Green security badge will now be an approved Salem Health badge for all vendors. These badges will not work on doors unless they meet our prerequisites and have an approved visit.
- Better after-hours badging: After-hours patient-visitor badging will move to Green Security to improve security workflow. The look of after-hours patient-visitor badges will not change.
- Clear contractor expectations: Contractors will have a defined baseline of vetting/training expectations, helping departments know what “good” looks like and improving accountability.
How vendor check-in will work during rollout
Some departments will be enrolled earlier than others as we build the system in phases and segment in by department.
- If your department is enrolled: Your department will approve vendors in the Green Security interface (training will be provided).
- If your department is not enrolled yet: Vendors will be directed to Security for check-in, and Security Dispatch will call your unit/department to confirm approval until your department’s workflow is built and training is completed.
Timeline
- Phase 1 (Vendors) go-live: Feb. 23
- Phase 2 (Patient and visitors) go-live: May 1
- Phase 3 (Contractors) go-live: Estimated June 15
Training and support
As departments are identified as approving departments (because they regularly host vendors or contractors), training will be scheduled as the system is built out. We’ll share job aids and “what to do when a vendor arrives” guidance.
Thank you for helping us harden vendor access control, ensure visitors are vetted and badged after hours and strengthen contractor accountability in a way that supports patient care and operational flow.
