Quality and patient safety

Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics facilities aim to reduce patient harms and improve outcomes by intentionally working toward zero patient harms. We have a strategic plan for our commitment to patient safety as a core value, which outlines specific safety goals and associated metrics, including the goal of "zero preventable harm."

Our plan includes evidence-based practices, continuous monitoring and staff engagement to achieve these goals. We are committed to eliminating preventable harm for patients, employees and providers.

To achieve the best clinical outcomes, we strive to maintain the safest possible environment for you, our patients and families.

Evidence-based practice improvements

Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics routinely implement evidence-based practice improvements that are proven to dramatically improve hospital safety. These practices are based on nationally recognized guidelines from organizations such as the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and The Joint Commission. Examples include reducing hospital-acquired infections, preventing patient falls and improving medication safety. We track progress through standardized safety metrics, real-time dashboards and regular review of performance to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
