Expected dates for lab draws

30 Jul 2023

Revised orders required if patient arrives early

By: Tish Gross, laboratory/imaging outreach supervisor

To our valued providers and staff:

Before orders are released, the lab is reviewing all orders placed in Epic for a valid expected date, to ensure orders are not released early (if the orders were placed for future use).

We understand patients may be given verbal guidance on their next steps after orders are placed, but we also respect the need to follow what is currently entered into Epic. If the patient arrives at the lab before the expected date listed on the order, the lab will require you to place a revised order. Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis by lab leadership, if necessary.

These requirements are being implemented under the direction of our Associate Chief Medical Staff Officer, Dr. Michelle Rasmussen.

If you have concerns, please reach out to clinical leadership or your one-up leader for assistance.

We appreciate your compliance with these guidelines.

Best regards,

Laboratory Services
