Trauma facilities are designated as Level I, II, III, or IV, with Level I and II centers offering the highest level of care. Level II trauma centers provide care for severely injured patients of all ages. Facility services and resource requirements are similar to Level I.  

Every trauma patient who arrives in the Salem Hospital emergency department is met by a trauma team with resuscitation life-support equipment to ensure rapid evaluation and treatment. Salem Hospital's most recent Level II  accreditation was in July 2024.
