Salem Health’s laboratory services rank high among other labs in the nation for its productivity. Take a glance at the surprising output of this team.

While they've always been vital to Salem Health's operation, during the COVID-19 pandemic, our lab team stepped up on a whole new level!

• In November 2020, the lab team reported a 50% increase in tests per week during a single month. In one seven-day period, they did 1,718 COVID tests — 400 more than the week before.
• The lab added capacity to do 500 more tests per week during the pandemic.

Still going strong: 2024 lab numbers

Post-pandemic, the lab team remains one of Salem Health's busiest groups.

• Phlebotomy conducted tests for 500,000 patients.
• Client services handles 63,000 calls a year to clarify needs, discuss test results and help providers.
• Couriers make 15,000 stops a year, delivering to and from the lab to keep the diagnostic chain on time for critical news about test results.

• Chemistry – 1,085,850 tests
• Hematology/coagulation – 353,149 tests
• Point-of-care testing – 371,886 tests
• Microbiology – 65,155 tests
