West Valley Hospital’s Cafe West saw a need, then answered the call.
“I knew that Salem Hospital’s nutrition services had a program where they donate to the Union Gospel Mission, and I felt we could set up a program out here to help the local community,” said Melinda Stamy, nutrition services supervisor at West Valley Hospital.
On Oct. 21, they made their first donation to the Dallas Food Bank.
“It is important to donate to the food bank because it helps people in need,” Stamy said. “Now more than ever, people could use a helping hand.”
This help comes dressed as stacked sandwiches, protein boxes, parfait cups, green juice and more.
“We donate two to three times a week,” Stamy said. “The items are leftovers from service and include a mix of sandwiches prepared at both the Salem campus and West Valley. These are utilized in our grab-and-go refrigerator as well as in the vending machine.”
Cafe West is thankful for the opportunity to help feed their community in this way.
“Every little bit helps,” Stamy said. “We are proud to be able to help.”
