Salem Hospital unveils 60-foot-long history wall

Visitors to Salem Hospital can now take a walk back in time to learn first-hand about its interesting history over the past 116 years.

The hospital recently unveiled its new history wall in Building B. The mural stretches 60 feet down a first-floor hallway near the Salem Health Heart & Vascular Center — and covers the hospital’s history from 1896 to 2012. The wall features photos and stories from throughout the decades.

The Salem Hospital Foundation funded the project. Some hospital artifacts became the original inspiration for the project. The public can now view the artifacts in display cases along the history wall. Salem Health leaders hope visitors will ultimately see the sense of pride that exists in Salem Hospital and the community for more than a century and counting.

“I think it’s a great depiction of the history of this organization,” said Norm Gruber, President and Chief Executive Officer, Salem Health. “It’s been here for a long time. This will be great for future generations to see a little bit of where this hospital came from.”
