About West Valley Hospital

West Valley Hospital, formerly Dallas Hospital, was established at the corner of Church and Academy streets.

A hospital structure was built in the present Uglow Street parking lot. The cost of construction was about $13,000 and was financed by the sale of stock and a $5,000 loan.

The hospital was sold to Setco NW, a California-based company. It was then sold to a succession of for-profit hospital companies.

 

Hyatt sold the hospital to American Medical International and the name was changed to Valley Community Hospital shortly thereafter. Two years later the hospital was sold to Nu-Med Medical Inc.

 

Valley Community Hospital was sold to Salem Hospital and was then leased back by Valley Community Hospital.

 

Salem Hospital invested about $2.5 million in a building remodel and addition and assumed control of hospital operations.

 

West Valley Hospital spent $6.2 million on its surgical suite for remodel and expansion. This upgrade made it possible to bring Salem Health surgeons to perform procedures in Dallas, closer to home for many patients.

 

Salem Health affiliated with Oregon Health and Science University and West Valley Hospital became Salem Health West Valley.

Salem Health Hospital and Clinics welcomed three new primary care clinics to the West Valley Hospital family: Salem Health Medical Clinic – Uglow Ave. (formerly Flaming Medical Center), Salem Health Medical Clinic – Miller Ave. (formerly Dallas Family Medicine), and Salem Health Medical Clinic – Independence (formerly WVP Medical Group Independence/Monmouth).

During the rollout of the vaccine for COVID-19, Polk was among the leading counties in Oregon for the percent of population vaccinated, thanks to a partnership between West Valley Hospital and county government.

The spring of 2021 also saw Salem Health adapting to changing health care needs in the area by offering same-day primary care appointments in Dallas.
