All support groups are held on a drop-in basis and located on the Salem Health campus unless otherwise noted. Please call the Community Health Education Center (CHEC) at 503-814-2432 for current dates and to register.


Look Good Feel Better

Look Good Feel Better is a free program designed for women dealing with hair loss and skin changes from chemotherapy and radiation. This class taught by licensed beauty professionals will help teach you:

  • Skin care and make up application
  • Tips on wig selection and wig care
  • Dry skin and discolored nails
  • Scarf and hat selection

Lymphedema management for breast cancer

Lymphedema occurs in a small number of patients receiving cancer treatment. The risk is increased when lymph nodes are removed during surgery and when there is radiation treatment to the area. It is important for all patients to be aware and take steps to reduce their risk.

Thriving and Surviving Cancer Workshop

This FREE six-week workshop is designed to help cancer survivors to live more active and fulfilling lives. This workshop provides information and practical tools to help individuals self-manage symptoms, challenges and day-to-day tasks in small supportive classes. Refreshments provided! Learn how to:
  • Manage stress and improve the ability to relax
  • Fight fatigue and frustration
  • Eat better and exercise safely
  • Control pain and improve activity
  • Talk to your doctor and family about your health
  • Solve problems and get the support you need
Sessions are one evening a week for 6 consecutive weeks. The start date will be determined based on interest. We must have at least six participants to hold the workshop. Please contact us to register and learn more about the next start date.

Prostate Cancer Support Group

Arts and exercise

Survivor Artist Showcase

Cancer survivors are invited to share your artwork in a special display in the Cancer Institute lobby. Painting, photography, poetry pottery, glasswork…you tell us!

Displays rotate every 8 weeks and brighten our lobby with a sense of hope, healing, and inspiration for patients, visitors and staff. Please let us know if you are an artist or have creative work you’d like to share. Artists will also be considered whose work has been inspired by a cancer survivor. RISE cancer fitness program

RISE (recovery in strength and exercise) is a four-week exercise program for people experiencing fatigue and loss of strength that can result from cancer treatment.

The focus is on rebuilding strength with weights while offering the support of a small group setting.
