Transfusion Reaction Evaluation LAB5013 order change

July 28 update ensures urine collection

The Transfusion Reaction Evaluation LAB5013 order will be adjusted Monday, July 28, to ensure urine collection is not missed.

Summary of changes:

• Current practice: When the order is placed, there is one specimen to be collected called “1 Pink, 1 Red, 1 Urine,” which leads to incomplete specimen collections.
• New practice: When the order is placed, there will be three specimen collections generated:
  • TRXN Reaction Workup (pink top tube)
  • TRXN Red Top Specimen
  • TRXN Urine

This ensures that all specimens are collected and traceable in Epic. Once the orders are complete, the results will appear under the Transfusion Reaction Evaluation test.
