New names for Total PSA tests start June 16

Changes clarify test choice for Medicare patients

Salem Health Laboratories will be changing the names of their Total Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests on Monday, June 16. Two tests will be affected (see below).

This change clarifies which test is intended for screening Medicare patients and which is intended for screening non-Medicare patients. No other features of these tests will be changing besides their names.

Summary of changes:

  • LAB8166 (PSAS)
    • Current name: Prostate Specific Antigen – Screen
    • New name: Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), Total Medicare Screening
  • LAB8038 (PSAD)
    • Current name: Prostate Specific Antigen – Diagnostic
    • New name: Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), Total
