As of Tuesday, Sept. 16, there are now two insulin drips
for non-diabetic ketoacidosis (NDKA) patients — one for the ICU level of care, another
for all other locations. Each uses a different calculator to help nurses
titrate the insulin infusion.
Watch out for this: If you see the “wrong” insulin
infusion for your patient's phase of care noted (such as the ICU-only version
outside of ICU, CVCU or Surgical Services), just make sure you’ve ordered
the correct insulin infusion for the patient.
