New insulin drip protocols started Sept. 16

21 Sep 2025

See ICU vs. non-ICU guidance

By: Lacey Geigle, RN clinical informatics coordinator

As of Tuesday, Sept. 16, there are now two insulin drips for non-diabetic ketoacidosis (NDKA) patients — one for the ICU level of care, another for all other locations. Each uses a different calculator to help nurses titrate the insulin infusion.

Watch out for this: If you see the “wrong” insulin infusion for your patient's phase of care noted (such as the ICU-only version outside of ICU, CVCU or Surgical Services), just make sure you’ve ordered the correct insulin infusion for the patient.
