Infusions that should not be titrated by nurses

New alert starts Sept. 22

Infusions ordered with a dose range (i.e. 10–20 mg/hour) imply titration by a nurse rather than a provider. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 22, a new alert will appear that reminds the ordering user that certain medications should not be ordered with a dose range.  

When ketamine infusions for acute pain, or high-dose insulin for calcium channel/beta blocker overdose are ordered with a ranged dose, the following alert will appear, requesting a revision of the order:
