Through career exploration, you can gain valuable insight into healthcare careers, explore areas that interest you and discover the many possibilities available within the healthcare industry.

Salem Health offers a variety of career exploration and job shadow opportunities across healthcare, including clinical, professional, technical and support careers. Explore the options below to find an experience that aligns with your interests and take the next step in discovering your future in healthcare.

Please note incomplete applications will not be processed. A complete application must include proof of required immunizations, tuberculosis (TB) test results completed within the past year and completion of the required on-site security screening. Additional requirements and details will be provided on each of the four application options below.

Physicians


A physician sponsor is required to participate in this career exploration experience and must be confirmed prior to applying. Applicants are responsible for identifying and securing their own physician sponsor, as Salem Health is unable to coordinate or match applicants with physicians. Salem Health will verify sponsorship directly with the physician before the career exploration experience is approved.

For professional students


For a professional student career exploration, you must complete the online application and meet the following requirements:


Clinical placements and rotations are available only through approved educational programs that have an established affiliation agreement with Salem Health. Your school must be aware of this requirement or have instructed you to complete Salem Health's Professional Student Application as part of the placement process.

  • In an educational program that requires hospital experience before you can graduate.
  • In a program that has an existing contract with Salem Health for student experiences.
  • Required to complete a hands-on, patient-care rotation, research, or leadership experience.

This application is for approved students who are enrolled in an accredited university or college training program that leads directly to certification, registration, or licensure in the health care profession.

  • Placements are arranged directly by the educational institution and the hospital organization.
  • Interested students who are not already approved and are seeking placement or a preceptor are encouraged to discuss their interests with their school.
